What a Slave-Reparations Claim Has to Do With Harvard Law School

April 3, 2015

I just found one of those blogs that can change your life. This was my introductory article. I hope that you enjoy it.

Who was the first person to ask for reparations for slavery?

In America the concept of reparations for slavery is generally thought to have originated during the Civil War era, with the failed promise of 40 acres and a mule. But it actually dates back to Revolutionary America, when a former slave named Belinda went before the Massachusetts Legislature and asked that an “allowance may be made … out of the estate” of her former master.

Belinda lived for more than 40 years in bondage to Isaac Royall Jr., a native of Massachusetts and the scion of sugar planters who made their fortune in Antigua. She spent most of those four decades on Royall’s expansive property in Medford, Mass., where he was the town’s largest slaveholder. (Some 60 slaves—not simultaneously—would occupy the house in the decades…

Egregious Enterprises LLC

March 10, 2015

One more time for the conglomerate. Still relevant today even with the poor edit.

The Chronicles of Six

Egregious Enterprises TM , LLC  was founded in Fall of 2003 in Washington DC by the ever evolving Why Must It Be A Secret? TM  Crew.

Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo doubled as a smooth R&B crooner in HS

How about a DeMatha feel-good story in basketball? Victor Oladipo can take your mind away for a spell…

Before Michael Jordan was making Bryon Russell fall with a killer crossover and draining the go ahead jumper to win his sixth NBA title with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan was a skinny, determined athlete dominating the competition at Laney High (Wilmington, N.C.).

Before Adrian Peterson was trucking opposing defenses and racking up 2,097 yards in a single season for the Minnesota Vikings, he was shining bright under the Friday night lights at Palestine High (Palestine, Texas), averaging 12 yards a carry and scoring 32 touchdowns.

Before any athlete can become legendary, they have to lay their foundation in the high school ranks.

Each week I’ll chat with a high-profile athlete’s former coach, mentor, family member, etc., and reminisce about their high school playing days; everything from the greatest moment to the wackiest story.

This week I caught…

DeMatha Coach Elijah Brooks Breaks Down WCAC Semifinal Win over Gonzaga

November 20, 2014

Inside DeMatha Football

Screen shot 2014-11-17 at 11.40.04 AMBefore we look ahead to the WCAC Championship Game Saturday at Byrd Stadium between DeMatha and Good Counsel, let’s take one look back at the great team effort the Stags produced last week in a 21-14 come-from-behind win over Gonzaga. DeMatha head coach Elijah Brooks talked with IDFB and broke down how his Stags fought their way to the big win:

Our team showed a lot of fight and determination. Gonzaga came out and executed very well in the first half. Outside of a fantastic punt return touchdown by DJ Turner, we didn’t have much to be excited about. At halftime we didn’t panic, but explained that this is where DeMatha teams come together and find a way to make one more play than our opponents. In the second half our defense was phenomenal, not allowing a score, just as they did in the regular season match up against Gonzaga…

DeMatha Pulls Off Dramatic Comeback Win Over Gonzaga In WCAC Semifinals

November 20, 2014

Inside DeMatha Football

Screen shot 2014-11-17 at 11.40.04 AMThat was one for the ages! DeMatha started slow Sunday against Gonzaga, but showing the heart of a champion, the Stags rallied in the second half to a 21-14 win over the Eagles.

A great punt return by Darryl Turner Jr. went 54 yards for a touchdown gave DeMatha an early 7-0 lead. But then it looked like Gonzaga’s offense might run away with the game, as they scored twice on big plays, and the Eagles jumped out to a 14-7 lead.

Screen shot 2014-11-17 at 11.41.12 AMWhen DeMatha coach Elijah Brooks got his team in the locker room at halftime, he told them what they already knew: You can come back and beat this team. You’ve done it before, now go do it again.

The Stags took Brooks’ message to heart. Behind a great half from QB Beau English and RB Lorenzo Harrison, DeMatha marched back into the game. English connected with Tino Ellis…

Tinkerbell’s Return: No More Kook

Tinkerbell’s Return: No More Kook

Kookboxx Surfboards is over.

Yeah, let that sink in for a little while.

This was us back in Virginia Beach when he started this whole Duct Tape Invitational thing with VANS.

Dandini & Joel

This was us back in Virginia Beach when he started this whole Duct Tape Invitational thing with VANS.

Kookboxx finished. I could get into the whole story on here right now, but I’m not.

I just got off the phone with Mama Denise and she really broke it down, but there are some lingering issues that need to clear before the whole story gets out.  All you need to know right now is that the boys aren’t really doing Kookboxx anymore. I spoke with Joel earlier this morning so I knew that he was serious.  I was honestly in a state of shock when he told me, but after he explained it made perfect sense.  Sometimes you just have to move on and make a better way.  It doesn’t always make sense to dwell on the past when you already have momentum and you can keep on pushing. I’m not wearing anymore t-shirts, even though the logo was fresh.

As a matter of fact, this is the last time that I will use the Kookboxx name in a sentence.  I can’t now, anyway…  I’m rocking with the best.  You are still rocking with the best.

So yeah, kids.  That’s how it just went down.

I’m extremely jealous. Happy belated birthday and all that, sis. Sorry I missed it! You are doing big things so it must be Cancer season again. Italian Vogue was super saucy, and them hoes on The YBF made me laugh in the comment section like a signifyin’ monkey.

Rough Estimate

May 8, 2012

I have been reflecting on my childhood a lot lately.

I guess the recipe for someone like me is (Bicycles + Sledding + Boy Scouts of America + blue Fish raised to the power of lobster + imagined big time athlete multiplied by average ability + The Grenadines divided by Lagos + science raised to the power of Robert Moses divided by surfing + Robinson Crusoe + mediocre student at great schools + Church divided by pork + John Phillip Sousa + Rudyard Kipling times Roald Dahl + Shaka Zulu times Thomas Jonathan Jackson divided by David Letterman multiplied by David Farragut + Run DMC raised to the power of Rakim and then further raised to the power of the Great Robert Nesta Marley + The Souls of Black Folks raised to the power of the pyramids + Fraternity – McCoy Tyner divided by Buzz Aldrin – Charles Drew –Malcolm X divided by El Hajj Malik El Shabazz – Daniel Joseph Daly + courage under fire) all raised by the power of God’s forgiveness through Christ.

There will be no recreations.  And I still left out so much, but…

That is all.

The Sunday Recovery: Bison Homecoming Edition

October 25, 2009

Okay, who am I kidding?  It is going to be a little while before I can write anything because my brain turned to mush.  Too much drinking and too little sleep is the recipe for soft brain.  On the bright side my weekend of Howard University Homecoming festivities was completely and totally awesome, and DeMatha also won.  The dark side is, of course, Howard University lost the football game to NCA&T.  Oh well, you have to take the good with the bad.  I promise later on today I’ll provide you with a photo link in this post so that you can see the photos from Saturday night.  Above you can see both my outfit and my mindset, and now you can click on the picture to see the photos or just hit this link.  Overall, I hit them hard all weekend with Homecoming chic fashion wear, but last night was especially velvety.  The all black theme was in remembrance of the Bison like Prince Jones, who are no longer here with us.
